Glossary

Definitions of the terms, products and fields used across the uCheck API endpoints and the file-upload tools. Where a field name differs between the JSON API (idcheck, achcheck) and the CSV upload tool (idc, ach), both spellings are listed on the same entry.

DBS

Disclosure and Barring Service — the UK public body that processes criminal record checks for England and Wales. uCheck offers DBS Basic, Standard and Enhanced checks.

DBS Basic

A basic disclosure showing unspent convictions and conditional cautions. Available to any individual for any purpose.

DBS Standard

A standard disclosure for eligible roles, showing spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings.

DBS Enhanced

An enhanced disclosure for eligible roles; as Standard, plus any information held locally by police forces considered relevant, and (where applicable) a check against the children’s and/or adults’ barred lists.

DS Basic

A basic disclosure issued by Disclosure Scotland rather than the DBS. Requires two identity documents supplied in order.

Disclosure Scotland

The Scottish Government agency that issues disclosures in Scotland, equivalent to the DBS. Identity document labels must match its descriptive labels exactly.

barred list

Lists, maintained by the DBS, of people barred from working with children and/or vulnerable adults. Checked as part of a DBS Enhanced check where eligible; see Get Barred Results.

ID check
idcheck
idc

Identity check — verification of an applicant’s identity documents. Enabled via the idcheck (API) / idc (upload tool) option. See https://www.ucheck.co.uk/identity-check/.

ACH
achcheck
ach

Adverse credit history — a check of an individual’s credit record. Enabled via the achcheck (API) / ach (upload tool) option. See https://www.ucheck.co.uk/adverse-credit-checks/.

RTW
rtw

Right to work — the original (non-digital) check that a person is legally entitled to work in the UK. It can no longer be requested; results of historic checks are still returned in the rtw block of Get Result. For new checks use drtwcheck or dbsdrtwcheck.

dbsdigitalid

Only valid for DBS checks (Standard / Enhanced or Basic). Allows the identity stage to be completed digitally rather than in person. See https://www.ucheck.co.uk/digital-identity-verification/.

dbsdrtwcheck

Adds a digital right-to-work check to a DBS application. Requires dbsdigitalid to be enabled.

applicantpay

If you want the applicant to pay for the checks via credit/debit card as part of the application forms, set this option to y (yes).
